Heavyweight tag team set to invade Assembly Hall

The UK Pitbulls, arguably the most sensational tag team in wrestling, are set to invade Worthing next week.

The Pitbulls, who threaten the scales at a combined weight of 58st, consist of Mike Walters, aka The Bulk, reputedly Europe’s heaviest wrestler, and his partner, Big Joe, and they will top the bill on the big half-term grappling spectacular on Monday (October 24).

The current line-up of The Pitbulls are a reincarnation of the original team of brothers Mike and Dave Waters, who retired as the undefeated Premier Wrestling Federation champions and remain the most successful tag team in PWF history.

They defended the title on a number of occasions in Worthing, beating Rowdy Ricky Knight and Zak Zodiac on their last appearance in 2007, and barring a couple of disqualifications and a no-contest decision they were beaten only twice in 28 bouts in Premier Promotions rings between 2003 and 2008.

It all came to a shuddering halt when Dave Waters suffered a crippling knee injury while taking part in a strongman competition, and Mike, who is also a drummer in a rock band, hung up his wrestling boots.

But now The Bulk is back, with Big Joe as his partner, on a mission to destroy every tag team in the country and recapture the tag-team title, currently held by Kris Kay and James Kenna, their opponents next week.

At around 20st each, Kay, who is also the PWF heavyweight champion, and 6ft 7in Kenna are not exactly on the small side, but the question the fans will be asking is: Have they bitten off more than they can chew with The Pitbulls?

The main supporting feature on the card will see highly-rated ladies star Lady Penelope make her Worthing debut against flame-haired Irish firebrand Rhia O’Reilly.

The action kicks off at 7.45pm, and tickets, including special reserved ringside seats and reduced prices for advance bookings, are available from the box office, telephone 01903 206206, or on line via the Worthing Theatres website.
