Floral flair and charitable Christmas spirit in Wick united to generate a magical sum for St Barnabas House hospice, in Worthing.
The Flower Shop, in Wick Street, hosted its fifth Christmas Event, raising more than £460 for the hospice – a figure which was a slither down on last year’s total of £490 but certainly one that staff at the store are more than pleased with.
Flower shop owner, Michelle Bly, who has worked at the site for more than two decades, said that the lower figure could have been due to hosting the event a week earlier than normal.
“A £30 difference, in this climate, is nothing considering how much we did raise,” admitted Michelle.
“I think that it’s a phenomenal amount for a small business to be able to drum up.
“It probably cost me that much to actually host the event. So I like to consider this as a Christmas thank-you to all my wonderful customers as well as a nice way of donating some much-needed cash to a really worthy cause.”
The day-long event, hosted at the store, saw around 80 people flood the florists to marvel at the winter wonder and intricate displays – all of which were on sale as part of the shop’s raffle.
There was also a selection of festive goodies and treats to help warm visitors’ insides, from mulled wine and mince pies to teas and coffees.
Michelle added that the event followed a Christmas workshop held by the team last month, in Wick Hall, which was also very well supported.
Everyone who attended were shown how to make their own floral Christmas arrangements.
“I think it’s really important to show everyone the skill and talent that is right on their doorstep,” said Michelle.
“All the staff are very talented at what they do and it takes a lot of work, planning and creativity to come up with the designs.
“We’re just so glad we’re so well supported and I’d like to thank everyone who attended both events.”
