MUCH has been written about free bus travel for pensioners and I would like to express my opinion for what it's worth.
I qualify on the grounds of age and disability but I have never been in favour of the concession.

In the days of half fare travel, the buses were not overcrowded with pensioners and there was room for fare paying passengers.

Now, I find madnes
s when I make my weekly outing.

Crowds of pensioners surging forward at bus stops, brandishing their passes as they try to board before passengers can alight.

I have spoken with some who boast about going out several times a week, and how far they travel because it's free.

I abhor this attitude, and wonder how they spent their days prior to free bus travel.

I was happy to pay half fare and thought it fair to everyone.

Now, however, fare-paying passengers have good reason to resent us oldies as they are getting a raw deal.

Not only often having to stand, but also paying the inevitable fare increases.

To top it all, some pensioners want free travel from 9am.

Don't they realise some people have to work for a living and need, not choose, to travel by bus?

No prizes for guessing which section of the community whinge the most when council tax rises to help cover free travel!
