Hats off to Worthing Council for successfully prosecuting two women who were seen flicking cigarette ends into the street.
Cigarette smoking is one of the worst litter creators.

Smokers seem to have total disregard for the environment, flicking their ash, throwing the stubs in the street and tossing away any empty packets, as well as puffing their smoke to annoy other
s.

A colleague, writing the story for the Herald, commented: "If there's one thing I hate it's littering the street.

The fines should be doubled if the offender has children with them because they're passing on their habit to the next generation."

Hear, hear. Perhaps the wonderful parking wardens and town centre attendants can do something much more worthwhile and catch more litter louts.
