I hope you all spotted the story in last week's Advertiser about the green gym at The Gallops, Findon Valley.
It's an initiative to encourage people to get fit by doing scrub clearing, ground clearance and planting.
An excellent idea and parts of The Gallops and paths leading to it are looking better already.
Some of you might have also seen a TV repo
rt of a project which has been going on up north, where people have been going out planting vegetables and fruit on council waste land.
It progressed from there to planting along verges, in pavement tubs and all manner of places.
And the beauty of the project is that if you come across a few carrots, leeks tomatoes or spuds growing on the land, you can help yourself.
This idea was started by people who "adopted" a piece of council-owned land to grow things on for the public benefit.
At first the council got stroppy about it, but quickly realised the benefits, and the town has now offiially adopted the scheme and fruit and vegetables are growing everywhere!
So, folks, how about getting such a project off the ground locally? There's plenty of waste land to turn to good use.
