Raiders head coach Dawson: Every game is a cup final now

Kieron Dawson

Kieron Dawson

WORTHING Raiders Rugby Club head coach Kieron Dawson believes it is now a three horse race for the National 2 South title ahead of their top-of-the-table clash at leaders Richmond on Saturday.

Raiders travel to Richmond in fine form after impressive wins over fourth-placed Henley two weeks ago and a 29-14 victory over fifth-placed Hartpury College on Saturday.

Dawson is relishing the trip to the leaders and believes his side’s destiny is in their own hands. He said: “We’re just taking each game as it comes but every game is a cup final for us now and that’s the mentality we have.

“We’ve just beaten the two teams immediately below us and now it’s become a three-horse race. We’ve got Richmond this week, so that will be a marker to where we are. It’s a huge one. If we can get some support up there, it would be great to see as many Raiders faces as we can.

“It’s huge game for the club. Richmond are clear at the moment but they’ve got some very difficult games coming up.

“We still have both Old Albanians and Richmond to play, so our destiny is in our own hands which is all we can ask at this stage of the season.”

Only the champions from the division gain automatic promotion into National 1, with the runners-up going into a play-off with the side who finish second in National 2 North.
