IT WAS a perfect autumn day for the Chichester ‘Done By Two’ festival and one the reigning champions of the Chichester RFC under-12s had looked forward to.
Pool A drew CRFC against Bognor, Horsham and Pulborough with the placed finishers playing the equivalent placed team in Pool B for honours.
The start against Bognor was quick with the first try coming straight from kick-off. The boys continued in the same fashion, playing sublime flowing rugby until the whistle blew for half-time with Chi 5-0 up.
A minute into the second half the score was 6-0 but a Bognor injury called the game to a halt.
Horsham were dispatched in pretty much the same fashion as lovely rugby by the Chichester boys to get past a quickly-improving Horsham side with some big lads – 5-0 the final score.
Pulborough were last up in the pool and Chi were in the groove and in was a seamless display, they were 5-0 winners against a talented and quick Pulborough team.
Pool B champs were Hove so it was a familiar battle for the title. A scrappy first half with errors and wasted chances was disappointing for Chi against a pumped-up, physical Hove squad.
A good half-time chat from the coaches did the trick and Chi came out knowing what they had to do. Tries started to flow and Chi ran away with the second half with four tries for a 4-0 win.
That made a tally of 20 tries scored, none against: yet another clean sheet for the under-12s following on from last year. And with a team of experienced tournament players and emerging talents, it bodes well for the season ahead.
