Ian Hart: Don't worry Albion fans, they're not doomed

I say this because once again, mass hysteria envelopes the county as the Albion have another Championship blip.

They’re not doomed, they’re not about to do a Devon Loch, as things stand they are actually in a better place in the promotion hunt than we were at 7.44pm on Friday night.

They’re two goals to the good on Huddersfield and they’ve got one less game to catch the Albion up and overtake them.

To my mind Newcastle are now an irrelevance, having effectively nicked 6 points off us this season, they’re still only a point ahead, but we can’t look back and think what have been.

If Chris Hughton’s men lift Championship trophy at the end of 46 games, then all well and good, but its not the be and end all, top two in whichever order will suffice.

The International break has come at the right time for the Albion, it gives them a chance to regroup, have a little bit of R and R before the back to back home games against Blackburn and Birmingham.

Quite simply if the Albion don’t get 6 points out of those two games, they don’t deserve to go up, and if the unthinkable were to happen then the doom and gloom merchants will go into meltdown, hopefully that won’t be the case.

One thing is for certain, if, sorry when the Albion do go up, it’s going be a very busy Summer in the transfer market, because if this squad wants to ultimately do the far more important thing and stay in the top flight in my opinion they will need in excess of 6 or 7 quality signings.

Away from the football the minefield that is social media has seen a few feathers ruffled in and around the Albion this week.

Albion’s Irish international defender Shane Duffy is entitled to his opinion, we live in a democracy, but I believe sometimes it can also be argued that keeping certain opinions private is the best options.

Tweeting about the death of Irish Politician Martin McGuinness, especially in light of his former association with the Provisional IRA and their involvement with the bombing of the Grand Hotel in Brighton in 1984 was never going to be universally endorsed.

To reiterate I respect Duffy’s views as a proud Irishman, but I think a little bit of thought before tweeting might have been a good idea.

This clearly is a lesson learnt, at least until the next time.
