Dave Herbert struck twice on his Arundel Football Club return to boost his side’s Southern Combination League Premier Division survival hopes last night.
As well as Herbert’s brace, Dion Jarvis and Rory Biggs also struck as Mullets romped to a 4-0 win at Horsham YMCA.
The success leaves third-bottom Arundel in the final relegation spot only on goal difference with nine games to play.
Mullets boss Richard Towers feels Herbert could be crucial for the run-in after a stint travelling.
He said: “Dave’s now back with us and showed what he can do with two goals. It was an ideal response after Saturday and keeps us within touching distance of safety.”
Herbert marked his return by striking twice in the opening 40 minutes. A fine first half was capped by Jarvis adding a third.
Substitute Rory Biggs missed a penalty five minutes before the end before making if four soon after. YM had Dean Carden dismissed for abusive language late on.
ARUNDEL: Fernandes; Lofting, Tipper, Walker, Bunker; Jenkins, A.Biggs, Jarvis, N.DaCosta; Nicholson, Herbert. Subs: Hawkes (Nicholson), Hooker-Meehan (A.Biggs), R.Biggs (Herbert).
