Dan Simmonds’ double put Wick in command, before three strikes in the final 35 minutes helped Crawley Down Gatwick comeback to run out 3-2 winners.

Third-from-bottom Wick knew a victory would see them jump up two places in the table, as it was, defeat leaves them in the relegation zone.

At 2-0, Joe Gromett spurned a great opportunity, a miss that Wick boss Lee Baldwin felt came back to haunt his side.

He said: "If Joe finishes that just before they get their first goal, I think it's game over.

"At half-time, if you had offered me the draw I'd have been really unhappy. So to then go on and lose the game was a real sickener. I said before this match, we need to win two of our next games, now it puts added pressure on the squad in those upcoming games.

"We've got trips to Peacehaven and Worthing United to come, both currently sit in the bottom six, so it's going to be a massive couple of weeks for us."

Simmonds struck on 25 minutes, then five minutes later as Wick went in at the interval with a 2-0 lead.

Gromett missed a one-on-one opportunity ten minutes after the restart and Marc Pelling pulled one back less than two minutes later.

Michael Spence and Oliver Leslie then netted in the final ten minutes to ensure Crawley Down came back to win.

Wick make the trip to sixth-from-bottom Peacehaven & Telscombe on Saturday.
