Mullets found themselves two down after 32 minutes of the Southern Combination League Premier Division match but pulled a goal back before half-time and then struck 20 minutes from time to return home with a 2-2 draw.

Arundel joint boss Barry Pidgeon felt a draw was the fair result after his side struggled to get going in the first half. He said: “We were dreadful in the first half, whether that was a hangover from beating Eastbourne United the previous week, I don’t know.

“We just didn’t play well, were off the pace and conceded two sloppy goals.

“We got a goal back and then came out for the second half and were all over them. We missed chance after chance before we equalised.

“We then had chances to win it but so did they and, on reflection, a draw was probably the fair result.”

AFC Uckfield took the lead on seven minutes when Arundel gave the ball away in midfield and Jack Webber broke through to score.

The hosts doubled their advantage through Scott Taylor on 32 minutes but Arundel got a goal back five minutes later.

Jordan Jones broke forward down the left and crossed for Scott Tipper to head home from five yards.

Arundel pressed for a leveller in the second half and Tipper had a header blocked on the line, Nathan Da Costa fired wide and substitute Dave Herbert shot over.

The equaliser came on 70 minutes when Dion Jarvis’s corner was only half-cleared and Da Costa rifled the ball into the top corner for his second goal in as many matches.

Tipper then had a shot blocked from close range, while AFC Uckfield had two efforts well saved by Mullets keeper James Fernandes.
