EAST PRESTON Cricket Club remain unbeaten this season after a six-wicket win away to West Chiltington on Saturday.
EP won the toss and chose to bowl first but their hosts finished on 218 for two off their 49 overs.
James Howgate was caught by Tim Miles off Joe Carter’s bowling for 11, with the score on 25, but Tim Jarvis and Eddie Miller then shared a 126-run second-wicket stand.
Miller was bowled by Mark Coskin for 50, after hitting eight fours and one six, before Jarvis added a further 67 for the third wicket with Jack Elliott-Monday.
Jarvis struck 15 fours as he ended the innings unbeaten on 105, while Elliott-Monday hit 34 not out.
In reply, EP skipper Gary Weedon and Tim Miles put on 39 for the opening wicket, before Miles fell for 11.
Weedon added 56 for the second wicket with Tom Chamberlain, before he was out for 61, from just 53 balls.
Chamberlain put on 54 for the third wicket with Tom Reeves, before he was bowled by Howgate for 21.
Reeves then saw EP home as he finished unbeaten on 66, off just 70 balls, while Jack Sunderland added 29.
Weedon was delighted with the victory and said: “It was a terrific win.
“We travelled without our strongest side available but, after recent performances, still fancied our chances.
“We had five fit bowlers who each contributed in the first innings. It is weird to say that we were happy at the halfway point, only taking two wickets and no bonus points.
“But, at West Chilt, only chasing 218 on a road, we fancied our chances and had a strong batting line-up.
“We controlled the innings beautifully. I managed to take advantage of their openers and got us off to a quick start.
“Tim fell early but Tom Chamberlain stuck around with me to take us to a good point to go on and win the game.
“I then went cheaply but Tom Reeves batted terrifically for another 50 to get us over the line.”
