Worthing cricketer Mason Crane helped England’s under-19 team make a convincing start to the under-19 World Cup against Fiji today.

The Hampshire right-arm leg-spinner did not take a wicket but bowled well, with figures of 12 runs from five overs as England won by a record 299 runs in Chittagong.

England captain Brad Taylor won the toss and elected to bat first, as opener Dan Lawrence hit an impressive 174 from 150 balls, while Jack Burnham struck 148 from 137 balls.

Max Holden, Callum Taylor and George Bartlett also contributed to England’s final total of 371-3 from 50 overs.

Fiji were then skittled out for just 72, with Sam Curran (three wickets and a run out), Ben Green (two wickets) and Brad Taylor (one wicket) impressing with the ball.

Pace bowler Saqib Mahmood was the pick of the bowlers, with figures of three wickets for two runs from five overs.

England’s next match is on Friday, when they take on West Indies.
