EAST PRESTON Cricket Club's 16-year-old all-rounder Darryl Rebbetts continued his outstanding season on Saturday when he blasted himself into EP's record books with his third hundred of the season.
During his innings of 116, he passed brother Sean's record for runs in a season. Sean struck 579 runs last year, which had broken Pete Dallimore's 2003 record of 566. But Darryl now has 637 runs in 11 innings this season, at an average of 79.6. He has also scored two half-centuries to go along with his three hundreds.
Darryl said: "Things have gone really well this year. I hadn't set myself any targets — I just wanted to score as many runs as I could. We've got four games left now, so hopefully I'll be able to score another hundred and another 50."
Last week, Darryl also smashed 106 playing for the Sussex Junior Martlets in their 123-run win over Brighton & Hove. And, this week, he played for Sussex Under-16s in a two-day match with Surrey, and is playing for Sussex Under-17s in a two-day game against Dorset.
Darryl fired 16 fours and two sixes in his side's draw with Horsham Trinity on Saturday. He shared a 151-run second-wicket stand with 18-year-old Sean, who hit his highest score of the season, 89. Sean crashed 10 fours and four sixes in his 96-ball innings to move on to 386 runs for the year.
He has passed 40 in his last four innings, after a spell of just two runs, and three ducks, in four innings earlier in the year. With Darryl, he also shared a 110-run partnership in EP's win at Southwick last week.
Sean said: "I love batting with Darryl, and we play well together. Whenever he comes in, we tend to bat well and on the last two occasions, we've put on 110 and 150.
"I really enjoy it. We compliment each other well, and run well together. He's batted brilliantly this year, and has broken my record for runs in a season still with four innings to go.
"Last year, he was batting at No 9 but this year has come in at No 3 or No 4. He's only 16 but whenever he goes out to bat, you just expect him to score runs."
