ARUNDEL Football Club completed their excellent season with a defeat to Rye on Saturday, which lifted their opponents off the bottom of the table.
Mullets finished third, and their assistant-manager Simon Butler said: "It's been a really pleasing season. We've won more games than last season, and with Crowborough going up, it gives us a real shout next year.

"We also finished with the second-best goal difference, which is a sign of a good team. And we had our top scorer, Scott Tipper, for just one third of the season.

"But everyone else has weighed in with goals, and now we have to push on next season."

On Saturday, Mullets' Mike Huckett shot just wide before Rye went ahead through Scott McDonald on 21 minutes.

Jason Wimbleton scrambled home the equaliser from Josh Biggs' cross on 63 minutes, but Rye substitute Mohaneo Abdullahi brilliantly headed his side back ahead six minutes later.

Howard Neighbour, with another excellent header, from Dave Hall's cross brought Mullets level on 80 minutes.

But on 85 minutes Abdullahi, with his second, got Rye's winner.

ARUNDEL: O'Connor; L.Walker, D.Walker, Hack, Hall; S.Towers, Wimbleton, Grove, Biggs; Matt Huckett, Neighbour. Subs: Hibberd (Grove 57), Sutcliffe (L.Walker 68), Goff (Towers 76).
