A NEIGHBOUR has been praised by firefighters for rescuing a woman from her burning home.
Crews from Worthing, Steyning and Shoreham were among the 40 firefighters from across the county who fought the blaze at Muddleswood, Newtimber, near Hassocks.
A neighbour called 999 just before midnight last night (Tuesday, July 22), saying he could see the woman inside her home.
After making the call he entered the building and rescued her.
Once fire crews arrived flames had enveloped the roof and first floor.
Firefighters used 16 sets of breathing apparatus to fight the blaze, which took an hour to get under control.
A quarter of the house affected by fire damage, and another 25 per cent affected by heat and smoke.
The cause of the fire is being investigated and crews are expected to remain at the scene for some time damping down and cutting away.
