DON Fathers is a sheep looker.
This afternoon after working on the South Downs he will go to ballroom and modern jive dance classes - he is also celebrating his 88th birthday.

After taking up the modern jive six years ago Don was partnered with local eco-granny Gay Cossins last year and the couple dance at least three times a week.

Don also dances ballroom in the afternoon.

"I don't know what keeps me young really. It's probably chasing after all these young ladies and never catching them," said Don.

"I suppose I get a lot of exercise and keep fit."

Gay has only been dancing the modern jive for a year and has been grateful to have Don as a partner.

"He's brilliant to dance with, all the girls and ladies love dancing with him," said Gay. "I don't know where he gets the energy."

Don started work as a messenger for the post office in 1934 before becoming a soldier.

After the war he returned to the post service as a sorting clerk and stayed until 1970 when he left to work in Shoreham Harbour until his retirement in 1982.

Don bought a puppy when he retired and competed in sheep dog trials, training award winning dogs until he took up lookering (watching over the sheep for a farmer).

He currently has two border collies - Bonnie and Meg - who he works with every day.

Now on his 88th birthday Don has no plans to slow down.
"It's great up here, and we just have a lot of fun," he said.
