We need action on A27 plan

I largely agree with Nathalie Hadjiftiou's letter (August 4) and comments regarding the A27, apart from her preference for no change; I have spent too many hours queuing from The Shoreham flyover to Broadwater.

A so-called through-pass will only cause additional congestion and chaos on local roads and effectively split Worthing into two parts, that north of the A27 and that south of it.

While a brand new by-pass would incur significant costs and arguments with conservationists, the idea of making the A283 and Long Furlong roads into dual carriageways surely merits some unbiased consideration. Neither of these roads is fit for modern traffic, each having several tight bends and being prone to obstruction by slow moving agricultural traffic. We need to get our representatives fully onside with this and get some action, rather than have yet more money wasted on endless consultations, studies and compulsory purchases.
