Wasn’t Bonfire Night great?
We missed the groups from the Isle of Wight, who usually change at our church (Littlehampton Baptist), but otherwise, it was perfect weather, with brilliant floats (especially Noah’s Ark), excellent bands and our usual wonderful bonfire societies, steam engines, etc, and superb firework display.
And such a vast number of people to enjoy it all! But, what a disappointing amount of giving! We didn’t even raise £8,000, let alone the aimed-for £10,000, in spite of all those spectators.
One remedy is more collectors, especially on The Green. Some people said I was the only collector they’d seen there. My ‘Mum’ and I had a great time, and met lots of lovely, generous people, but were disappointed, and once again hope to collect more next year. So, book the date, October 31, and aim to help, yourself, and/or start collecting those pennies now!
Huge thanks to all who worked so hard planning, preparing, participating and clearing up. It’s not too late to put something in the collecting bucket at David O. Jones in High Street, so please do this by November 29. All the money goes to local charities.
Looking forward to seeing you next year – with bags of money.
