Dear Mr Hart, I read your weekly column with interest and it is always refreshing when you switch to cricket and away from football, which dominates all levels of the media.
Whilst I fully share your love for Test cricket I cannot agree that the current Pakistan v England series is a waste of time simply because attendances are so poor.
With the ongoing decline of West Indies cricket showing no signs of reversal it is imperative that Pakistan continue as a major cricketing force.
This can be only achieved by playing Test cricket and as no country will entertain touring Pakistan any series in the UAE, although second best, is vital for their continuity and the development of their players.
Put it another waym without Pakistan international cricket would be much the poorer and less competitive.
Another positive to this current series is the considerable interest it is creating here at home.
Given the fact that Pakistan are the major tourists to England in 2016 their current success will surely boost ticket sales for the four Test matches and ODI’s that are scheduled (together with a visit to our beloved County Ground at Hove).
All in all I am convinced that this series which you despise is vital not only for Pakistan but Test cricket as a whole.
