Truly an honour

I AM writing with regard to the exciting article which recently appeared in the Gazette, reporting that the village of Rustington had been invited to represent the United Kingdom in the 2012 Entente Florale competition, the judging for which takes place later this summer.

This truly is a great honour, as each country can only put forward two entries which then participate, in competition, with cities, towns and villages in other European countries.

Unlike Britain in Bloom, in which Rustington excelled in 2011, this competition concentrates heavily on environmental improvements that affect our quality of life and, to a lesser extent, on the standard of horticulture.

The European judges would be most impressed if some local companies, groups and organisations, specialising in some aspect of the environment, could demonstrate the benefits to the community, during the one-day judging tour.

If you believe you fit that criteria and can help in any way, the parish council would be very pleased to hear from you. In the first instance, contact should be made with the clerk of the parish council on 01903 786420 or e-mail:caroleward@rustingtonpc.org

Councillor Andy Cooper, chairman, Rustington Parish Council

Bushby Avenue
