Health ‘MoTs’ to combat low life expectancy in Littlehampton

PEOPLE living in central Littlehampton are being urged to take advantage of a free, “health MoT” this week.

According to the latest Arun health profile, life expectancy in parts of Ham and River wards is about 10.1 years lower for men, and 8.5 years lower for women, than in other areas of Arun just a few miles away.

Adult obesity in the district is higher than the national average. However, deaths from cancer, heart disease have decreased here in the last 10 years,

The NHS health assessments run across the district and are organised in partnership with the Arun Well-being Team.

Today (Friday, May 11) will see the next ‘MoT’ session taking place at the Chilgrove Community Flat in Clun Road, Wick, from 10am-4pm.

The health checks aim to help tackle these serious health inequalities by helping residents reduce their risk of developing serious conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. Arun well-being advisers will also be on hand at the sessions to provide advice, support and motivation.

Anyone between the ages of 40 and 74 who is registered with a GP in West Sussex, and who is not already diagnosed with a long-term condition such as diabetes or kidney disease, is eligible for the 30-minute health MoTs,

To book an appointment, ring 01273 268900. For more information or for general health and well-being advice, contact the Arun Well-being Team on 01903 737862, info@arunwellbeing.org.uk or at www.arunwellbeing.org.uk
