Desperate appeal launched to save Littlehampton Bonfire Night

Littlehamptons Bonfire celebrations could be at an end, organisers have claimed

Littlehamptons Bonfire celebrations could be at an end, organisers have claimed

LITTLEHAMPTON Bonfire Society is facing a crisis which organisers say could put an end to the town’s 60-year-old tradition.

The group has launched a desperate appeal to find a replacement volunteer event co-ordinator after the current person in charge stepped down.

Richard Cooper, society secretary, said the role was a “fundamental” keystone for the group.

“It’s vital anyone who thinks they may be able to take this position on makes contact with us as soon as possible.

“Failing this there will be no option but to disband the society, and sadly, at the moment, this is looking highly probable.”

Applicants will represent the society during the annual Littlehampton Bonfire Night celebrations, being the group’s main point of contact with emergency services and marshals on the night.

Other responsibilities include taking part in safety meetings, maintaining and updating the event’s management plan and risk assessment, as well as liaising with Arun District Council and Sussex Police, among others.

To apply, call 01903 72514, see Tyndall Jones, at the David O. Jones, in High Street, or email littlehamptonbonfiresociety @hotmail.co.uk by Sunday, March 30.
