IT’S going to be a busy year in Arun, with numerous events to mark both the Queen’s diamond jubilee and the Olympics.
Now Arun District Council is lending a helping hand to all those in the area who are planning their own celebrations for 2012.
A special edition of the council’s summer and autumn What’s On brochure is being produced, with the focus on all the events taking place across area between June and October to commemorate the Olympic and jubilee year.
Event organisers are being encouraged to submit their “What’s On” entry, to be included in the brochure, by Monday, April 9, via an e-form on the website www.arun.gov.uk/whatson
The brochure will then be available at the Arun Civic Centre, in Maltravers Road, as well as in the Littlehampton Look and Sea Centre, the town’s library and other leisure and tourism sites, from Monday, May 21. It will also be possible to download it at www.arun.gov.uk/whatson
Arun’s cabinet member for economic and cultural development, Norman Dingemans, who is also in charge of tourism, said: “I’d really like to encourage as many people as possible to tell us what they’re organising to celebrate the Olympics and Queen’s diamond jubilee.
“By submitting your event to this one-off What’s On guide, you have a fantastic opportunity to get other people involved and mark both the occasions in style.”
People can submit as many events as they like via the e-form, for free – whether it’s a fête, sporting event, market, meeting or carnival.
All the details will then be saved and placed in any future event-related publications, as long as it is submitted in time and based in the Arun district.
Arun’s events officer Phil Graham added: “You can keep up-to-date with what’s happening in Arun all year round by visiting our What’s On page online.
“If you’re an event organiser, it’s quick and easy to tell others what you’re planning and there’s no cost involved, so submitting your event through our website and including it in the What’s On guide is a great way to ensure it gets widespread publicity.”
