Arun calls for Olympic leaders to step forward

THE hunt to find Arun’s Olympic leaders was launched this week.

Organisers of the London 2012 and Paralympic Games are looking for volunteers who could help bring communities together to celebrate the spirit of the international event, this summer.

Volunteers who sign up to be “local leaders” will receive access to information and resources to help their communities or groups plan fun activities to celebrate the many Olympic-themed events taking place.

Arun District Council’s cabinet member for economic and cultural development, councillor Norman Dingemans, has welcomed the idea.

He said: “For many, the torch relay and the games will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of a major international event.

“It will also help bring people together to celebrate in our villages and towns and encourage all ages to take part in sporting and community activities.

“There will be many ways to volunteer to be involved on the day of the relay or in helping communities celebrate the games as a whole.”

For more information about the scheme or to sign up, visit www.london2012.com/localleaders.
