West Sussex residents can take advantage of an advice scheme to help people through the financial hurdles of paying for care.

Carewise is a not-for-profit partnership between West Sussex County Council, Age UK West Sussex, West Sussex Partners in Care, and the Society of Later Life Advisers (SOLLA), and has a panel of approved financial advisers specialising in later life advice.

The initiative provides information and advice about available care and support options, and also promotes the benefits of seeking early specialist financial advice on cost effective ways of paying for long-term care.

Peter Catchpole, WSCC’s cabinet member for health and adults’ services, said: “The pension reforms mean that some of our residents will be considering the best way forward for their future.

“Paying for care is one of the biggest items of expenditure that anyone will face, alongside buying a house and we all know that costs are continuing to rise.

“Providing good information and advice is a vital role of the County Council and we want to encourage people to seek this before they make any final decisions about their or a relative’s long-term care. This is why Carewise is such an important scheme.”

The specialist financial advisers and Age UK West Sussex money advice service means that Carewise can offer a range of information and advice to suit people’s individual circumstances.
