Police say a blaze in a derelict Lancing building in Old Shoreham Road could have been an arson attack.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Police were called to the junction of Old Shoreham Road with the A27 near Lancing just before 7pm on Wednesday (December 2) to assist with traffic control while West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service dealt with a blaze in a derelict property.

“The cause of the fire is not yet known but arson has not been ruled out.

“No one was hurt.”

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said an investigation is underway

Crews from Worthing and Steyning were called to the property on the corner of Grinstead Lane around 6.50pm.

Firefighters left the scene shortly after 9pm, before going back for a re-inspection at 11.35pm to ensure the area was safe.

The A27 was closed for a short while last night due to smoke covering the dual carriageway.
