UPDATE: Man arrested after hammer attack at station

A man has been arrested at Worthing railway station following reports of an assault with a hammer, police said.

According to Sussex Police, officers were called at around 7.10am on Tuesday to reports that a man was seen at Worthing Railway Station with a hammer and had hit a member of staff.

The victim, a 50-year-old man from Shoreham, was treated at the scene for a bump to the head but did not suffer serious injuries, police said.

A 29-year-old man from Worthing was arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Police said he is currently undergoing medical assessment while police enquiries continue.

Witnesses can email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting reference 172 of 22/11.

British Transport Police was also at the scene.
