UPDATE: Barnham girl, 10, flown to hospital after being hit by car

A ten-year-old girl from Barnham has been airlifted to hospital after being struck by a car.

The girl is said to have suffered a ‘serious leg injury’, according to police, following the collision on Barnham Road between Eastergate and Barnham just before 7pm this evening.

The officer in charge, Sergeant Baldwin of the roads and policing department in Arundel, said in a statement: “At 6.56pm on Friday, October 9, a road traffic collision occurred on Barnham Road, Barnham, east of the junction with the A29.

“A Ford Mondeo was in collision with a ten-year-old female pedestrian from Barnham.

“The young girl has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with a serious leg injury.

“The driver of the car, a 44-year-old local man also from Barnham, was uninjured.

“The road is about to be reopened following investigation work at the scene.”

The stretch of Barnham Road reopened at around 8.30pm.

Anyone who witnesses the collision is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting reference number 1282 of 09/10/15.
