British Transport Police CCTV appeal following Barnham hate crime.

BRITISH Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for information after a train driver was racially abused at Barnham railway station.

Officers have released CCTV images of two men they want to talk to in connection with the incident, which took place on Friday, January 13.

The 48-year-old victim was leaving the station via a staff-only entrance at around 2.30pm when two men tried to follow him.

The driver informed the men that it was a staff only gate and that they should use the main exit instead.

The men argued with the driver before walking away and hurling racist abuse at him.

PC Mark Brookes, the investigating officer, said: “The driver had rightly told the men they couldn’t use the staff exit and for had a volley of racist abuse hurled at him, simply for doing his job.

“We treat all reports of hate crimes very seriously and offensive, racist abuse like this will not be tolerated.

“We’re making local enquiries into this incident and want to hear from anyone with information, or who recognises the men pictured.”

Anyone with information should contact BTP on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference B3/LSA of 03/02/12.

Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
