Sisters Katie and Victoria Cole are preparing for the ultimate physical challenge on Saturday.

The pair are taking part in London Tough Mudder to raise money for a trip with Cred Foundation to work with refugee children in Uganda.

Katie, 20, and Victoria, 17, of Beaconsfield Road, Littlehampton, will face extreme obstacle challenges across 12 miles of mud on a course designed to push everyone to their limit.

The money they raise will go towards Victoria’s return visit to Kampala, where she worked with children as part of a trip two years ago.

The children there live in an informal settlement, having become refugees within their own country, and sessions of games, arts and crafts, maths and literacy were all part of the time Victoria spent with the children.

“Last time I was there, we also provided money for the medical care of a seriously ill boy and returned the family to their home village,” she said.

“We funded the tiling of the floor of the church, which is the centre of their community.

“We also initiated a project to see showers and working toilets built within the settlement. I am hoping to see that this has been achieved.”

Victoria will be going back out to Uganda in the summer, from July 2 to July 11.

She said the trip in October 2014 had been a life-changing experience and she was grateful to have that chance again.

“By being a part of this team. I will spend time hoping to change the lives of children who are refugees in their own country,” she said.

“They have experienced and witnessed horrific things during their lives and now live in extreme poverty.

“We will supply basic schooling of numeracy and literacy, providing them with hope for the future – something they value hugely.”
