CHARITIES are making urgent appeals for runners to go the extra 26 miles in this year’s Brighton Marathon.
Several charities in the Herald and Gazette area are struggling to fill their spaces for this year’s marathon, set to take place on Sunday, April 15.
The Sussex MS Centre, in Croft Avenue, Southwick, is appealing for a replacement runner after one of its fund-raisers dropped out.
“It is getting quite late in the day to fill it but we pay for the spot and we lose money as a charity if we don’t,” said Joanna Hedges from the charity.
The Sussex MS Centre supports people from across Sussex with a range of neurological conditions, as well as those undergoing cancer treatment.

WADARS, based in Findon Road, Worthing, is appealing for fund-raisers to take part in the marathon for a £30 registration fee.
The charity rescues and rehabilitates wild animals as well as rehoming pets.

Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice, near Angmering, and St Barnabas House hospice in Durrington are both looking for runners to support them in the marathon.

A Sussex-based charity working in Africa is also appealing for runners.
GardenAfrica funds sustainable horticultural training to enable gardeners and smallholders in Africa to grow crops in drought-prone land.

National charities are also looking for runners.
Diabetes UK, which runs support groups in Steyning and Brighton, is hoping someone will take up its cause.
Anyone who wants to take part in the marathon must raise a minimum of £300 in sponsorship.
The charity will take care of the administration and entrance fees.
