Lifesaver Ivan pride of Littlehampton RNLI

Ivan Gree, left, with Nick White during his award ceremony.

AFTER years of helping to rescue countless people stranded at sea or in the fast-flowing River Arun, long-standing RNLI volunteer Ivan Greer has been rewarded for his commitment.

Ivan, 41, of Old Worthing Road, East Preston, was praised by fellow members for dedicating two decades of his life to saving others.

He first volunteered to serve as a crewman for the Littlehampton lifeboat station, at Fisherman’s Quay, when he was just 21, and received the commendation for his 20 years of service during a special presentation evening.

A modest Ivan said he was proud to be given the award, but claimed that helping to save lives, for him, was just normal part of the job.

He said: “This is a nice badge of honour, I guess.

“But it’s something that I never really expected to get.”
