COMPANIONSHIP and an ability to empathise with people are just some of the qualities needed by applicants for a care hospice’s latest volunteer drive.
St Barnabas House hospice, based in Goring, is seeking volunteers to support its community companion scheme – which operates across the Gazette area.
The role would see applicants providing additional, practical support to patients and carers in their own homes.
One of the main aims is to encourage and support independent living which in turn leads to increased well-being. Companions would need to be willing to learn, be reliable and have excellent listening and communication skills. A knowledge of palliative care would help.
For more information on this and other volunteering opportunities in the area, contact Derek Moore, Arun Volunteer Centre co-ordinator, telephone 01903 731223, email email@example.com or call in at the centre on the ground floor, Bradbury Centre, 1-5 St Martin’s Lane, Littlehampton, from 9am to 4pm on Mondays and Thursdays and 9.30am to 4.30pm on Wednesdays.
