UPDATE: Pro-choice protest moves to town centre

Brighton Pro Choice

Brighton Pro Choice

PRO-CHOICE protesters brought Worthing town centre to a standstill.

Between 50 and 70 supporters of Brighton Pro-Choice marched from Worthing High School, where they were picketing Jubilee Church, to the town centre this afternoon (Sunday, April 15).

They were escorted by police, drafted in from Chichester, Littlehampton and Bognor, to the front of the Guildbourne Centre, where they continued to chant pro-choice slogans.

Scores of protesters set up picket lines outside school earlier today, saying they were demonstrating against what they call the “disgusting tactics” of Abort67, a campaign group made up of members of Jubilee Church, which meets at the South Farm Road school.

For about the last year, Abort67 has been picketing Wistons Clinic in Brighton on a bi-weekly basis, taking with them full-colour posters depicting aborted fetuses.

Brighton Pro-Choice said these tactics amounted to intimidation and harassment.

Carolynne Henshaw, of the campaign group, said she was pleased with the turn out.

“They stand outside our clinic, harassing women,” she said.

“We want them to know what we think of their tactics.”

She added a 3,000-signature strong petition, against Abort67’s tactics, has been handed to church leaders.
