BUSINESS owners in Pier Road, Littlehampton, fear the £14.5 million tidal flood defence development, due to begin on the East Bank of the River Arun, could kill their trade before the work is completed.
Both Pier Road and Arun Parade will be closed to vehicles from Monday, October 21 until May and June next year sparking concerns that existing customers will take their business elsewhere.
Michael Kavalieros, owner of the River Breeze Restaurant, and Andrew Kondou, owner of Osca’s fish and chip shop, both in Pier Road, are uncertain what the future holds for their livelihoods.
Michael said: “When it is finished it will be brilliant but it will be a nightmare from now until completion.
“We are a life line to the pensioners who rely on us. I mean that sincerely.
“We don’t know where we stand financially, that is worrying.
“I have ten staff. What do I do with them? It is a headache.”
