THOUSANDS of people have backed an online petition for safety work at a road junction which claimed the life of a motorcyclist in Climping.
The campaign was started on Facebook and aims to stop future fatal accidents from happening in the village.
Robert ‘Jacko’ Giacopazzi was killed at the junction of the A259 Crookthorn Lane and Yapton Road just before 2pm on Sunday, August 25.
Mr Giacopazzi, 48, was riding his Yamaha bike when it was in collision with a red Vauxhall Corsa.
So far, more than 3,300 people have joined the online effort, set up by Mr Giacopazzi’s cousin, Tony.
The petition states both Arun and Climping councils have called the junction an accident blackspot and says these words should be followed by action. That could be a roundabout, traffic lights or a ban on right-hand turns from Yapton.
A West Sussex County Council spokesman said that the route was subject to a safety scheme a few years ago, where speeds were lowered from 60mph to 40mph.
