ROYAL Navy recruit Matthew Green, from Littlehampton, is now on course for a career at sea after completing the first stage of his chef’s training.

Matthew, 20, a former Littlehampton Community School student, spent his first 10 weeks in the Navy at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall, on an intensive course teaching the basic skills needed by all sailors, finishing with a passing-out parade watched by family and friends.

He is now transferring to the Defence Maritime Logistics School, also based at HMS Raleigh, for a 26-week course during which he will learn how to cook tasty meals for hundreds of people, as well as fine dining cuisine, food hygiene, health and safety, catering accountancy and stock control.
