A GLIMMER of hope is on the horizon for concerned disabled students at The Angmering School as a cycling-mad duo have pledged their support.
Competitive youngsters at the school’s Lavinia Norfolk Centre feared that, due to mounting costs, they would not be able to make the annual Stoke Mandeville Games national sporting competition for disabled students, this year.
However, when Chris Rowley and Allen Porter, of Middleton Insurance Services Ltd, were told of their plight, by colleague Joanne Francis – whose son, Matthew, is a student at the centre – they decided to hop onto their bikes, and lend a hand.
The dynamic duo have now agreed to cycle more than 900 miles from John O’ Groats to Land’s End in just 10 days, in a bid to raise £20,000 for the school, later this year, in April.
Chris, 34, said: “We have cycled the South Downs Way before to help raise more than £5,000 for Jo’s disabled son’s wheelchair.
“But when we heard about the funding trouble the school was having, we felt it was our duty to help the cause, especially when a lot of people could benefit”
Each year, it costs the school about £10,000 to provide transport, staffing, food and accommodation during the competition.
