HE HAS been the driving force in developing the renowned TLA Steel Band.

And now, Lee Nelson, head of music at The Littlehampton Academy who first formed the group, has received a top gong of his own.

He was presented with the prestigious Ezekiel ‘Biggs’ Yearwood Outstanding Achievement Award at the British Association of Steelbands Annual Awards ceremony earlier this month.

Mr Nelson first set up the band in 2005. Since then, it has blossomed, performing in the nation’s capital, overseas and at countless local and charity events.

It now has four bands – one for beginners in year seven, a junior band, advanced one and pro one – which has united academy students of all ages, past and present.
