VIDEO LOG: Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner’s scrutiny responsibilities

This month our video log explores the Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner’s scrutiny responsibilities.

The PCC, Katy Bourne, holds a Performance & Accountability Meeting (PAM) with Sussex Police Chief Constable Giles York every month. Questions during each PAM are themed around the four priorities in the Police & Crime Plan “Safer in Sussex”: Crime & Community Safety; Victim Focus; Public Confidence; and Value for Money.

The issues raised during these meetings are based around the concerns that members of the public raise with Mrs Bourne.

The February PAM will cover topics including road safety, squatters and complaints against the police. Also on the agenda are the Force’s Shop Watch scheme and Business Crime strategy; female genital mutilation; unauthorised drone usage; and a progress update on Sussex Police’s investments in operational policing following a rise in the police precept in 2014/15.

Every PAM is webcast live and recordings of each meeting are available to view online: http://www.sussex-pcc.public-i.tv/. You can also follow the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #SusPolScrutiny.

For residents who’d prefer to raise their concerns with the PCC and the police face to face, the next ‘Community Conversation’ will be taking place on 1 April at the Chichester Assembly Rooms. Doors open at 6pm and the public meeting will start at 6.30pm. Guests will have an opportunity to pose questions directly to Mrs Bourne, Mr York and the West Sussex divisional commander. Keep an eye on www.sussex-pcc.gov.uk to book your place.
