Worthing Home Guard, December 17, 1944

The photo below, of the Worthing Home Guard, was sent in by Marion Bristow.

Marion identified her grandfather,Victor Ernest Long, in the second row, second from left.

She also named her grandfather’s brother, Charles Long, on the far left of the front row.

The only other person in the photo that Marion could identify was Geoffrey E. Berry, fourth from left in the third row.

Debbi Bridle, of Carnforth Road, Sompting, wrote in to identify her own grandfather, Henry (Harry) Stent, as the man third from left on the back row.

Debbi said: “I remember my dad telling me that Harry was reluctant to join the Home Guard, but was quite happy when he came home, as he had been made a sergeant.”

Debbi also sent in another photo of the Worthing Home Guard, above, from December 17, 1944, and pointed out her grandfather, third from right in the front row.

Get in touch if you can identify any other members of the Worthing Home Guard in either of the photos.
