Long-time town crier, councillor Angela Standing, 46, has been chosen to be the next mayor of Arundel.

Elected at a meeting of Arundel Town Council last night, Mrs Standing, who lives in Warningcamp, will take the reins once current mayor councillor James Stewart’s term comes to an end in May.

“It’s a very special honour,” said Angela, who will be introduced as mayor at a special ‘mayor-making’ ceremony in May.

Asked about her plans for her time as mayor, she said: “I’m just going to carry on moving forward with Arundel youth strategy and transport strategy, and helping Arundel residents and visitors.”

Angela will likely be busy as she intends to continue as town crier after she becomes mayor.
