A MAN had a lucky escape after an arsonist torched the car he was sleeping in.

Police are appealing for information about an arson on a car in Angmering in the early hours of this morning.

A 66-year-old man was sleeping in his VW Polo on Mayflower Way when he woke after hearing what he thought was a motorcycle around 3.55am. Something was then thrown through the car window which then set fire to the car.

The man was able to get out of the car but had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Detective Constable Chris Bishop said: “We are appealing to the motorcyclist who might have seen something in the area or anyone in Mayflower Way who saw or heard anything suspicious. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 142 of 23/6.”
