A 24-year-old man has been arrested following a police pursuit near Littlehampton.

Police said shortly before 2pm yesterday, officers became aware of a Volkswagen Jetta suspected to contain persons connected to an assault outside of Sussex.

The vehicle was pursued on the A27 westbound at Clapham, where it failed to stop, and it continued towards Littlehampton on to the southbound Lyminster Road, where according to police, officers lost sight of it.

The car was later found abandoned in nearby Mill Lane, in Wick, and police said up to three occupants were seen to decamp.

The NPAS police helicopter assisted in the search of the suspects, one of whom was located by the Road Policing Unit topless on the A259 at Rustington.

Police said the man, from Liverpool, was arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified and failing to stop when required to do so by a police officer, and has been bailed until June 18 pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing for anyone with information relating to the outstanding suspects to come forward.

Witnesses should contact police on 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101, quoting serial 672 of 23/05.
