VOLUNTEERS are needed to spare a couple of hours to pass on vital knowledge and advice about a host of modern day problems to young people in the Littlehampton area.

Project 82 is seeking an evening youth worker to help out with its information shop, offering support, information and mentoring to young people aged 13-25.

The Wick-based charity covers issues such as sexual health, mental well-being, alcohol, drugs, housing and homelessness, family, relationships, leisure, travel, volunteering, education, employment and much more.

Volunteers are needed to help run the evening sessions with trained youth workers and are expected to work with other staff on a programme of activities, bringing in new ideas and approaches to working with challenging groups of young people.

Each volunteer is encouraged to work a minimum of two hours, one evening per week, but any time a committed person can give is most welcome. The group is also looking for a volunteer youth worker.

To find out more about this and other opportunities available this week, contact Volunteer Now! on 01243 864220, email, volunteernow@vaac.org.uk, or see www.vaac.org.uk

Other opportunities in the Gazette area this week include:

n Active applicants are being sought to help a disabled residents in Rustington enjoy the freedoms of the swimming pool.

St Bridget’s care home, in Ilex Close, is appealing for volunteers to help residents living at the home to join in with sessions run by the Arun Dolphins Swimming Club for the disabled.

The sessions take place on Wednesdays, 5.30-7.30pm, at least twice a month. Volunteers would be needed to help residents to and from the session.

n Contact the Elderly is looking for afternoon tea hosts to brighten up the lives of lonely elderly people living in the area.

The parties are for those aged 75 and over and take place at the host’s own home on the third Sunday of each month, from 3pm-5pm. Volunteers would make sandwiches and cakes for up to 10 guests. While meetings take place monthly, it is unlikely that the volunteer host would be asked to hold a meeting more than once a year. Volunteers would not need to organise guests’ transportation.

n Save the Children is looking for a person with an eye for detail to join its charity shop team in Littlehampton.

Responsibilities include till work, keeping the shop tidy and organising the various donations into colourful and attractive displays.
