Two hurt in stolen motorycles crash at Littlehampton

Two motorcyclists riding stolen machines which had been seen speeding through nearby villages minutes earlier crashed into each other on a roundabout at Littlehampton.

Police were called to the Tesco roundabout on the A259 at 3.35pm yesterday (Thursday, November 8), where the riders, two men aged 20 and 21, suffered leg injuries in the collision.

The older biker was taken to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester and the younger one went to Worthing Hospital but was discharged later.

Both motorcycles had been reported stolen during the previous night, one from Littlehampton and the other from Bognor.

PC Iain Lumbard, of the Sussex Road Policing Unit, based at Arundel, said; “The two bikes had been seen being ridden at speed together through the Ford and Climping areas and onto the A259 towards Littlehampton shortly before the collision.

“Police have been investigating a number of motorcycle thefts in the Arun area recently and we remind owners to take all reasonable security precautions to prevent them being stolen.

No arrests have been made at this stage but we will be interviewing both riders.”

Anyone who saw the riders, or who witnessed the collision, is asked to contact police using the 101 non-emergency number, quoting serial 0993 of 8/11, or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk
