A HOMELESS man in Littlehampton needed hospital treatment after he was ‘viciously’ assaulted by a gang of youths.

The 60-year-old victim suffered facial injuries after he was punched and kicked while sitting on a park bench in Littlehampton.

The man was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where he was treated and remained for three days.

Police are now appealing for people who may have seen the attack near the war memorial by Caffyns Field, at about 10.30pm on July 5.

DC Jamie Carruthers said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack. I would like to hear from anyone who saw the assault or a group of youths running away.”

They should contact police on 101, email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting serial number 1730 5/7.

Three local boys, aged 14, 15 and 16, have been arrested and bailed for further enquiries until August 2.
