Death on the railway at Lyminster

BRITISH Transport Police are investigating a death on the railway at Lyminster last night (Friday, December 30).

BTP officers were called to Lyminster level crossing on the A284 Lyminster Road shortly before 7pm following a report that someone had been struck by a train.

Sussex Police officers and ambulance paramedics also attended, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A BTP spokesman said: "The incident is now currently being treated as non-suspicious, after initially being declared unexplained, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

The tracks were handed back to Network Rail at 8.49pm.”

Lyminster Road was closed in both directions from the A259 at Wick to Mill Lane, Toddington, for three to four hours, and rail services were suspended for a time, with a replacement bus service operating.
