THE owners of an Angmering hotel dating back to the 16th century have failed in a third attempt to have plans approved for a five-bedroom extension.
Angmering Parish Council and West Sussex county highways department, together with four villagers, objected to the planning application for the Angmering Manor Hotel on the grounds of inadequate parking in the hotel grounds.
Concerns were also raised about the negative impact the extension would have on the historic building, and about the impact on neighbours of noise from the new rooms.
Arun District Council planning officers, using delegated powers, refused the application on the grounds that the council, and county highways, ‘were not satisfied that suitable parking provision can be provided within the site to accommodate the increased number of bedrooms/visitors without having an unacceptable impact on the highway environment’.
Further grounds for refusal were the adverse effect the development would have had on the health of mature trees in the grounds of the hotel, which is in the Angmering conservation area, and the harmful impact that extra noise and activity would have on the occupiers of the nearby property, Garden House.
In a report on the application, Arun’s officers said the size, form and position of the extension were acceptable, but the rear access for the new rooms would cause disturbance for neighbours.
